  • : Yoshi's At Meals On Wheels!
We were very excited to participate in this year's Meals on Wheels Gala Event at Fort Mason in San Francisco.  This was my sixth Meals event, and I look forward to every year.  My theme for this year was "Tsukiji Fish Market".  My team and I brought taste of Tsukiji to the bay area by offering a varied selection of sashimi and unique sauces to pair.  Takara Sake of Berkeley joined Yoshi's and supplied the crowd with their limited release nama (unpasteurized) sake.  Lots of crowds, action and fresh fish...just like Tsukiji.  Many thanks to my good friends, Meals on Wheels Chariwoman Chef Nancy Oakes and Richard of Boulevard in San Francisco.  Their tireless effort and passion is the reason this event is such a Bay Area icon.

  • : La Clinica Event at Rosenblum Cellars
We traveled across the channel today to Alameda and Rosenblum Cellars who hosted La Clinica's Spring Fundraising Drive.  I took full advantage of the winery's outdoor grill and the beautiful weather to off our guests "summertime" fare...king crab with lemon tamari butter, muscovy duck and negi skewers and spicy miso prawns to list a few.  The best thing about our little taste of summer here in the bay, no humidity!

  • : San Francisco Film Festival
The Yoshi's crew and I offered award winners at the 50th anniversary of the SF Film Festival held at Fort Mason in San Francisco my version of a "Taste of Tsukiji".  I hand carved sashimi from a maguro loin, we offered "made to order" nigiri sushi and also prepared hamachi sashimi with warm ginger ponzu.  We had a great time serving the event's 500 guests.

  • : Sushi and Beyond
My culinary team, Kyle, Armando and Travis participated in "Sushi and Beyond" at the Miyako Hotel in Japantown.  This event promoted Bay Area Japanese cuisine and culture.   Once in awhile, my team needs to get out of the kitchen...to see what others in the field are doing and to recharge.  I hope they had a good time.

  • : Yoshi's at the ACT for the Premier of
We attended the ACT's "After The War" premier, a play by Philip Kan Gotanda. This play depicted post war life in the Fillmore as the Japanese community returned to their old neighborhood, now primarily inhabited by African Americans.  The Japanese Cultural and Community Center hosted the dinner, where I created a menu called "Memories of Japan" which I hoped would invoke visions of Japan in the spring...  I would suggest to everyone, please attend this production, it reveals much about the history of Japanese Americans in San Francisco.

  • : Yoshi's Chefs To Be!
Three students from Albany High School visited today as part of their Job Shadow Day.  I explained to them how difficult it is to be a chef, but with hard work and passion, they can succeed.  My sous chef, Brian, worked with them as they prepared their "omakase" dinner and they had an opportunity to work all of the stations in the kitchen, including sushi bar.  Thank you for visiting my kitchen and I hope you will be star chefs in the future.  I am looking forward to eventually dining at YOUR restaurants.
